💛 La raza churra tensina. Barbúes, Huesca 🐑🐑🐑🐑

The Churra tensina breed is native to the central valleys of the spanish Pyrenees (Tena, Broto and Bió) in the Alto Gallego and Sobrarbe regions. It has also spread to other regions of Huesca province (Jacetania, Hoya de Huesca and Monegros). The Churra tensina breed was not recognized as such until 1999. Previously, this population was included within the Churra de Castilla breed, along with other similar populations. Since then the breed has been officially recognized. From an ethnic point of view, the Churra tensina breed is related to other Iberian populations such as the Churra de Castilla breed, the Churra de Vitigudino breed, the Churra de Lebrija breed and with other lesser-known populations such as the ancient Leonese Churra breed, which has now disappeared. In the Huesca Pyrenees, this breed was subjected to an extensive management system, feeding in summer on the abundant mountain pastures, sometimes reaching levels of 2,000 meters in height. It is a very rustic breed, specialized in the production of coarse wool and in the production of lamb. Since its official recognition in 1999, the breed has somewhat recovered its censuses and ATURA works to promote and care for the breed.
