Maytag A407 Permanent Press Cycle

After getting the washer reassembled, I found that the Permanent Press Cycle didn't operate during "cool down" as described in the user manual. The manual states that cool down consists of a 45 second spin/drain, refill with cold water, 15 second spin/drain, refill with cold water, then a full spin/drain with a 15 second spray rinse. With help from people on automaticwasher.org, I realized that the above cool down sequence depends on the proper flow rate during spin/drain. It was then that I also realized that the pump belt was too loose. After tightening the belt, I tested it this morning on a medium load and it functioned exactly as Maytag designed it to work. However, the load in this video didn't behave that way. The cool down took about one minute to drain before the pressure switch detected the correct water level for the refill. That was the only part of the cool down phase of the cycle. I think the timer continues to operate through all of that and when the first spin/drain takes too long it throws the sequence off, thus allowing for one spin/drain for cool down along with a pause before shifting into spin/drain to set up the deep rinse. This video's load is full of very absorbent cotton t-shirts, whereas the old school PP fabrics were light synthetics. So I think that's why it takes longer to spin out before the pressure switch detects the refill level. And that's why PP cycle doesn't always operate as designed. All that said, it works great for an extra rinse option!
