Hello, this is Hidden Seoul. In this video, we walk through Huam-dong, an old neighborhood in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Huam-dong is located beneath Namsan Mountain, close to the center of Seoul. During the Japanese colonial period, this area near Namsan became home to Japanese residential districts, and some Japanese-style houses were built here, often mixed with Western architectural influences. Traces of that time can still be found in the alleys of Huam-dong today. Old gates, low roofs, narrow alleys, stairways, and quiet houses show the many layers of time that have gathered beneath Namsan. This walk quietly records an old village in central Seoul where traces of the past still remain.
