No Wifi at the Gig What to Do! | How I deal with NO WiFi when DJing | #Questions 10 Real Life DJ
Welcome back to #Questions this episodes question is from Adam Rixon who asked.. #Questions What do you do if there is no WiFi at your gigs and you need WiFi to get music? Love your videos Well Adam, you may not have noticed but I don’t use a laptop to DJ with as I use a Pioneer XDJ RX2 with my music on USB thumb drives. Additionally when I’m DJing at clubs I use the thumb drives too! So I don’t need WiFi to DJ. You will probably ask next what if I get a request and I don’t have that tune? Well that’s simple to answer, if I don’t have that tune I won’t be able to play it. The way I see it is if it was good I would have had it, so it can’t be good enough to make it into my set. If I don’t have the tune how would I know its suitable for the audience I’m playing to? Might have unsuitable lyrics or it might just be a shit tune that the person that is requesting it likes and no body else in the building does. Playing that won’t do your reputation any good at all and won’t get me future bookings. Adam it is important as a DJ that you don’t loose sight that you are the DJ not the juke box or ipod. What that means is if you are DJing at any half decent event then who is ever paying you will be expecting you to have prepared in some way what you will be playing and be fully aware what music you will be using. It is also easy as an inexperienced DJ to feel intimidated by bolshy older event guests, but with experience these people become a lot easier to deal with and my from experience you want to have some prepared phrases you use to reject requests without upsetting the guest who is requesting it(I could do a future video about that!). Obviously unless they become a massive pain then just tell them to do one as you are working and need to concentrate. I do feel sorry for inexperienced DJ’s who feel they have to play requests and that ends up ruining their set and emptying the dance floor, because all people will remember is that the dance floor was empty not that it was some dopes requests that cleared it. Again that does not gain future bookings. If you want to have banging events you need to let the people know that know what you are doing and if they want a packed dancefloor and a banging. Night they have to let you do your job. Remember it’s your reputation you are building and your future as a DJ.
