Menurut cerita yang beredar, Gunung Tabor adalah lokasi Transfigurasi Kristus, dimana Yesus dimuliakan di atas gunung, berubah wajah menjadi bersinar-sinar dan kelihatan berbicara dengan Musa dan Elia. Sekarang di atas gunung tersebut berdiri Basilika dengan nama Church of the Transfiguration.
