Allegiant Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 (DC-9-83) N866GA (cn 49910/1638) Fleet# 866 Seat: 34A Built in Long Beach, CA, this beauty was purchased as an MD-81 (DC-9-81) in 1989, by Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), as OY-KHK (Roald Viking). She was later modified to become a DC-9-82 in July 2001. Written from use & stored in Stockholm, in October 2004. She was modified again in December 2004, this time to become a DC-9-83, and was then delivered to Allegiant Air, as N866GA, in January 2005. Her configuration went from 150 seats with SAS, to 166 non-reclining seats with Allegiant. Flight took place on 'Super Bowl Sunday' (2018). As far as the alert sounding tone during engine start, it's an unusual phenomenon that occasionally occurs when the P.A. system is in use when they're firing up the engines. One expert on the matter gives the following explanation: "To be technically correct what you are hearing is the ignition box recharging between firing the ignition plugs. The pause in the sound is the actual moment of ignition plug firing." Later production MD-80's have added electrical shielding, which prevents that noise from occurring in the cabin.
