August 10, 2018 With the criminalization of elder abuse over the past two decades, judges recognize they sit atop the pipeline of elder justice and are certainly paying increased attention to the issue. Elder abuse enters a courtroom both directly in civil and criminal cases, as well as indirectly (e.g., in the context of a guardianship proceeding). In this webinar, Judge Karen Aileen Howze will discuss the dynamics of elder abuse, relevant issues such as cognitive capacity, expert witnesses which may be required, reasonable courtroom accommodations, the advantages of elder abuse multidisciplinary teams, and the importance of judicial leadership on the issue of elder abuse. Presenters: Judge Karen Aileen Howze Judge-in-Residence National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
