Historian Shri Krishna Jugnu tells that Gavari is a folk dance of Rajasthan which is performed by the people of Bhil community. The artists of Gavari make a circle at any intersection of the city or village and establish Mataji in the middle and dance to the beats of thali-mandal (drum). This tradition has been going on for many years. It is done to worship Mata Gaurrajya (Parvati). In this, dance is performed with the dialogue of 'Ghum-Ghum' in a round circle with different types of bright clothes and colorful makeup. The tune of Gavari will keep resonating in the Aanchal of Mewar for 40 days from Thandi Rakhi. Many types of games are shown in this ritual which takes place from morning to evening. In every game, a message of social awareness is also given like - one should not steal, it has a bad end (in the game of Goma), trees should not be cut, what trouble can it bring (in the game of Raja-Rani, Varju Kanjari), one should not kill any living being (in the game of Kalukeer), one should face the crisis bravely (fight with the Mughals in the game of Bheelu Rana), one should be happy and keep others happy too (in the game of Sethji), beautiful depiction of love (in the game of Kanha-Gujri), women power and respect (in the game of Raja-Rani). Apart from this, there are many other games. There are about 150 members in a Gavari. The most special thing is that all the members acting in it are men. Some of them also play the role of women. After 40 days, Gavari is immersed in water with a royal procession.
