The Bob - A Story about Volunteering in the Bob Marshall Wilderness

Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, affectionately known as “The Bob,” is located in Northwestern Montana. The Bob Complex is made up of three separate wilderness areas: The Bob Marshall Wilderness, established in 1964; The Scapegoat Wilderness, established in 1972; and the Great Bear Wilderness, established in 1978. Considered by many to be the “crown jewel” of the Wilderness system, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex is comprised of over 1.5 million acres of untrammeled wilderness that stretches from Glacier National Park in the north, to Rogers Pass to the south in the northern Rockies of Montana. The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation’s (BMWF) mission is to connect people with America’s wilderness heritage by providing access to and stewardship of one of the world’s most spectacular places – Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. They help hundreds of hard-working volunteers of all ages develop a land ethic and give back to the wilderness by opening trails, restoring heavily used areas, maintaining historic structures and fighting weeds. We learned a great deal of history about the Bob and how it came to be, and over the couple of days we were able to capture the volunteers passion for conservation and stewardship, along with gaining some insight in to what makes “The Bob” so special and why they chose to give their time and energy to this particular cause. They all shared their reasons for being there and why they believe others should get out and help foundations like the BMWF. "The Bob - A Volunteer Story" is a film to highlight the efforts that go into keeping the wild places wild, and the groups and people who make it possible for places like the Bob to continue to be accessible.
