Reginald Dixon BBC Radio2 1976 Request.

Reginald Dixon Sunday Request Broadcast On BBC Radio 2 1976. I believe Reginald Dixon made his first radio broadcast from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer in June 1930. Well, here we are some 46 years later, in March 1976, and Reg is still broadcasting on the BBC radio service. These programmes went out at 7 am on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday mornings and at this time were shared each doing so many weeks with Dudley Savage with his "As Prescribed" From Plymouth. Also, Douglas Reeve, like Reg Dixon, did several weeks in a series playing the BBC theatre organ number 3, the Ex Empress Ballroom Blackpool Wurlitzer, then installed in the BBC Playhouse theatre Manchester. For me, 1976 was a special year as later that year; I met my organ hero Reginald Dixon in person. And I'm sure if you were around back, then you will remember that scorching hot summer with wall to wall blue sky and sun from dawn to dusk and high temps from early June till August bank holiday. And the drought and water shortage that this brought us. I think Reg Dixon did one more series of these Sunday request shows into the spring of 1977? Before retiring from broadcasting. My great thanks to Robert for sending me this reel to reel tape of this part show from March 1976.
