Painting 'I'll Look After You' | Watercolor Portrait

There are some moments that last only a few seconds but stay in our hearts forever. When I saw my granddaughter receiving a gentle kiss from her family dog, Roo, I knew it was more than just a cute photograph. It was a moment of trust, affection, and unconditional love. In this time-lapse watercolor painting, I share how I approached preserving that feeling on paper. Rather than painting every detail, I focused on composition, soft edges, transparent washes, and the connection between both. My goal wasn't simply to paint two subjects—it was to tell a story. As artists, we're often trying to capture something that can't be measured: tenderness, joy, and the relationships that define our lives. That's what this painting is about.
