I have walked over 100 miles along the Cornwall Coastal Path. Here are my specific tips for visiting St Michael's Mount: Allow 2 to 3 hours to explore St Michael's Mount. Ideally, you want to time your visit when low tide occurs in the middle of the afternoon so you can enjoy your morning on the island and then walk back on the causeway on the way home. There is a charge to take the water ferry over to St Michael's Mount. There are also separate charges each for visiting the small village on the island (which are mainly just shops and a very small museum), the impressive garden facing the sea (which is located at the back of the castle) and the castle itself. When the tide is in (i.e. when you can't walk across) you have to buy your tickets on the mainland in the village of Marazion. In other words, you have to decide what you want to see before you get to the island. This is where this video can come in handy. It can help you decide what you want to see. In my opinion, it is not worth the money to visit the castle. England has no shortage of far more interesting castles. That's why I did not show the interior of the castle in the video. The castle is best admired from the outside. The tidal causeway is free but it is only walkable (without getting your feet wet) for about a 20 to 30 minute period straddling around low tide. So pay close attention to the tide chart posted on the mainland and on the island. It is also a good idea to check the expected low tide time online before visiting St Michael's Mount to get an idea what to expect when you show up. If you want to walk the tidal causeway there and back, you won't have much time to visit the island. The water ferry does not run for 45 minutes to an hour either side of low tide because the water level is too low. So there is a period either side of low tide where the island is not accessible by either water ferry or walking the tidal causeway. They post signs on the island telling you when this will occur. The longest line for catching the ferry is after the tide has come in and all those people who have been waiting to take the ferry rush down to the dock. It is best to avoid this period if you can. -There are limited food options on St Michael's Mount. Basically, just one main (somewhat expensive) cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The village on the mainland across from St Michael's Mount is Marazion. It has several restaurants. It is a better option for food. The best place to stay in the area for St Michael's Mount is in the nearby city of Penzance, which is just 3 miles away. The walk from Penzance to Saint Michael's Mount is very pleasant and one of the easiest and most scenic walks on the entire Cornish Coast Path. I have a separate YouTube video just on this. The link will appear at the end of this video.
