Quick and correct intervention is essential to preserve the patient's life, correcting vital functions and eliminating the toxin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this Video, You Will Learn: • The importance of rapid diagnosis and action in emergencies. • Elimination of the Toxin by Route of Entry: ◦ Inhalation Poisoning: Removal from the area, oxygen. Caution: Do not apply artificial respiration for irritating gases such as phosphine (PH₃), a highly toxic gas with severe acute effects. ◦ Skin Contact: Removal of clothing and washing. Important: AVOID washing for elemental sodium, phosphorus, or calcium oxide due to severe burns. ◦ Eye Contact: Wash with water for 15 minutes. Do not use local chemical antidotes; seek ophthalmological evaluation. • Ingestion Intoxication: ▪ Induced Emesis (Vomiting): Ipecac Syrup is OBSOLETE and has undesirable effects and absolute contraindications (e.g., ingestion of acids/alkali, hydrocarbons, neurological depression, children under 6 months). ▪ Gastric Lavage: Indicated within the first 2 hours after ingestion of serious toxins. It has severe contraindications such as agitation, seizures, cardiac arrhythmias, caustic/corrosive substances or hydrocarbons, CNS depression (without intubation).
