Pluto’s Corporate Tax Hell | The Sun Makers | Classic Doctor Who Review

They TAXED the SUN?! Yes, really. In Doctor Who: The Sun Makers, The Company (Praise Them) on Pluto has turned taxation into an art form — charging citizens for breathing, working, dying, to fund the six artificial suns keeping the planet alive. Robert Holmes wrote this (likely) after getting absolutely railed by the British taxman, and the savage corporate satire is still brutal in 2026. Tom Baker and Leela enter into this nightmare bureaucracy, team up with some lame rebels, and accidentally start a revolution against bootlicking officials, death taxes, and a squeaky little bean-counter who never leaves his chair. I break down the sharp satire, Leela going full warrior mode, why Hade & the Collector are comedy gold, and pontificate on why the rebels are kinda disappointing. If you hate taxes, love unhinged Classic Who, or just want to watch greedy corporations get cooked… this one’s for you. -Like if you also want to tax the sun -Subscribe for more Salty Classic Who reviews -Comment: If you think I'm a moron or amazing.
