Smooth acrylic? Yes, but...

I was intrigued by a video I saw where a headlight is restored with a vapor that seems to melt the outer surface of the lens and bring back full optical transparency. It got me wondering if this was repeatable on acrylic using acetone so I picked up a stainless steel heated travel mug, made a printed a custom 3D printed nozzle, and performed some tests at various sandpaper grits. What do you think about the results? There's some potential but I think there's still more to learn and try.
