Born in the year 2890 of the Third Age, at the age of fifty he set out with Gandalf and Thorin's Company for Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, in search of the treasure of the dragon Smaug. Along the way he encountered trolls, elves, Rivendell, Elrond, goblins, Gollum, the One Ring, wolves, wargs, eagles, Beorn, giant spiders, the elves of Thranduil, the men of Lake-town with Bard, the dwarves of the Iron Hills led by Dáin, and the Arkenstone. He took part in the Battle of the Five Armies and returned to the Shire. Almost fifty years later, he adopted Frodo Baggins and named him his heir. He then went to live in Rivendell and finally in the Grey Havens and Aman.
