From the 1950s, he took part in many key events shaping the development of Polish jazz. He was a member of the legendary Jazz Darings and the Tomasz Stańko Quintet, and collaborated with Andrzej Trzaskowski and the Studio Jazzowe Polskiego Radia. From the 1980s, he ran a jazz club that became one of the most important jazz venues in Poland, where he performed with outstanding musicians in unique and exclusive line-ups. Janusz Muniak is widely regarded as one of the greatest Polish jazz saxophonists.
