Twin Row Fall 2024

As the year comes to a close, we checked in with Pat Kane to see how the story of his twin row field unfolded. Pat walked us through how twin row planting fits into his system and how the benefits of this practice go beyond soil health. His approach of twin row planting a cereal grain and interseeding red clover not only keeps the soil in place, but it provides a high protein, low quality feed for his heifers and dry cows. Next spring, after harvesting the covers for feed, he’ll come in and plant corn right into the clovers. Once terminated, the clovers will provide nitrogren credit for next year’s crop. Depending on soil tests, Pat may not need to side dress, which will be another added benefit to this system. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
