Chartham Level Crossing, Chartham, Kent on the Ashford to Ramsgate Line. Location: Station Road, Chartham Date Filmed: 06-04-2024 - Nearest Station: Chartham - Trains: Class 375 (Southeastern) Located near the centre of the village of Chartham, next to the railway station. This crossing was upgraded in December 2022 to an automated full barrier crossing, now monitored via CCTV from Canterbury. Previously, this crossing had manually operated gates, with a signaller positioned at the now redundant Chartham signal box. The new crossing came with the addition of five warning lights (wigwags), four barriers and four 'e2s' alarms. Despite there being four alarms, all of them are very quiet and were barely audible, especially from a distance. The station platforms here are too short to hold 8-coach trains so any train of this length which is Canterbury-bound will overhang and block the crossing whilst it is stopped, causing an additional delay to anyone waiting at the crossing. At the time of filming, the crossing was over a year old but still looks in a new and good condition. Thanks For Watching!
