On November 11, 2021, Naxalites kidnapped Ajay Lakra, a PMGSY sub-engineer, and Laxman Partagiri, a daily wage worker, from Bastar, Chhattisgarh. On the evening of November 12, the day after the kidnapping, Laxman Partagiri was released by the Naxalites. However, the sub-engineer remained in their custody. Various social organizations and public representatives continued to appeal to the Naxalites for the sub-engineer's safe release. A team of local journalists, accompanied by Ajay Lakra's wife, Arpita, traveled through the Naxalite stronghold to secure the sub-engineer's release. After nearly seven days of searching the jungles, the journalists finally succeeded. On November 17, the Naxalites called the journalists and invited them to the forests of Bijapur.
