Leadership in Rehabilitation: Strategies for All Clinicians
The landscape of leadership in PT/OT has shifted focus in the 21st century compared to the historically traditional views on what it means to be a leader. The lunch and learn will give an overview on some of the skills required of a leader in PT/OT, including emotional intelligence, navigating difficult conversations, and using coaching skills in leading. These skills and knowledge will be applicable to not just current leaders or those seeking leadership growth, but also to those looking to help drive positive change in healthcare today. Reasons to Watch: Understand the role of a leader as a coach, exploring various best practices. Define emotional intelligence and explore four of its attributes: self-awareness, self-control, empathy, and relationship management. Chad Hensel, PT, DPT, MHS, CSCS, has over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Hensel has served as Director of the PTA Program at Marion Tech College since 2014 and as Associate Dean of Health since 2021. A certified strength and conditioning specialist Dr. Hensel has completed numerous graduate courses on educational theory and design. He currently serves as the Chair of the Ohio PTA Educators Consortium. While teaching orthopedics at Marion Tech College, his clinical experience has been focused on outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. Dr. Hensel has been presenting continuing education workshops for over ten years in both live and webinar formats. He has been a faculty member for both PT and PTA programs before serving in his current role as Director. Dr. Hensel continues to lecture and lead labs in the PTA and OTA curriculum at Marion Tech College. His Bachelor of Science is from Bowling Green State University, while his Masters of Health Science and post-professional Doctorate of Physical Therapy were earned from the University of Indianapolis. Member of the APTA and the Education Section as well as a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
