Wieder mehr Bock auf Schule

Paths and Pitfalls to World-Class Education - Germany can boast a strong vocational education system and a high STEM graduation rate. However, international comparisons—such as the 2022 PISA study—reveal a decline in educational attainment compared to other OECD countries. Fifteen-year-olds in Germany have fallen to the lowest scores ever recorded in the PISA study across all competency areas. We use the experiences of students as the starting point for our discussion with Lilli Berthold, Deputy Secretary General of the Federal Student Conference from Halle an der Saale. In our web talk, we analyze with Lilli Berthold why many young people suffer from academic pressure, stress, and psychological strain. With Jörg Bernstein, a vocational school teacher and FDP education policy expert, we explore what our society needs to ensure the promise of upward mobility for every child. Drawing on his nearly thirty years of experience as a vocational school teacher, the FDP politician illustrates how the teaching profession can be made more attractive again. With educational scientist Alexander Kobuss, we will discuss what a pluralistic education system must look like to not only enable the best education in the world, but also to ensure it in the long term under constantly changing social conditions. You are cordially invited to follow the analyses and statements on these and other questions and to ask your questions in the web talk. We look forward to seeing you there.
