Quad Cortex Factory Preset Challenge: Enter Sandman (Hetfield & Hammett) #quadcortex #metallica

"Enter Sandman" is one of the most iconic and successful songs by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on July 29, 1991, as the first single from their legendary fifth studio album, the self-titled Black Album. The main guitar riff, composed by Kirk Hammett, is considered one of the most recognizable in rock history. To achieve that distorted, rock-solid yet crystal-clear rhythmic sound, James Hetfield didn't just record a single track, but created a veritable wall of layered sound: he played the exact same rhythm part three or four times, layering the tracks with pinpoint accuracy. The secret to the album's sound lies in the obsessive attention to frequency: a wall of precise, mid-range rhythm guitars juxtaposed with brilliant cleans and cutting solos. The idea was to recreate the sonic universe of "Enter Sandman" in a single Quad Cortex preset, using scenes. The preset starts with the Adaptive Gate followed by a wah assigned to the expression pedal. From here, Scene A begins, which is the initial clean: CA MK cc+ amp (Mesa Boogie Mark 2+) with a 2x12 V30 speaker cabinet followed by a compressor, chorus, and Hall Reverb. Scene B is James Hatfield's famous wall of sound: the same amp but with generous gain, and after the cab, a Graphic EQ with the classic "smile" setting to dig out the mids. A Studio Plate reverb follows to add ambience. Scene C is for Kirk, who uses a similar saturation to James's solo, but with much more mids to cut through the mix thanks to a TS808 with the gain at minimum and the level at maximum, in addition to the inevitable wah.
