With a scheduled travel time of nearly 13 hours this train is one of the longest ICE connections that currently exist. It is operated with a single seven carriages long ICE 4 unit. The route leads from Münster via Ruhr, Stuttgart, Munich, Salzburg and Villach to Graz. Due to construction works the train got rerouted twice: first from Vaihingen (Enz) over a freight railway directly to Esslingen (Neckar) and secondly from Munich-Pasing via another freight railway to Munich East. The stops at Stuttgart main station and Munich main station were cancelled. That's how the train overcame the whole journey without changing the direction of travel. There were three high speed railways on the way: Cologne - Frankfurt high speed railway, Mannheim - Stuttgart high speed railway and between Klagenfurt and Graz the Koralm railway, which opened in December 2025. Between Stuttgart and Ulm the train didn't take the Wendlingen - Ulm high speed railway, instead it took the old railway via the Geislinger Steige like in the good old days. After Salzburg the journey offers a beautiful alpine mountain range view. The view before arriving in Bad Gastein is the highlight of the trip in my opinion. The journey went quite on time in large part. In Munich East the departure was delayed by 7 minutes due to delayed staff. This delay doubled until Prien am Chiemsee but was caught up again until Graz. A remarkable thing is, that the schedule seemed to be planned very generously. On the high speed railway between Cologne and Frankfurt the train went very slow without building a delay. On the high speed railway between Mannheim and Stuttgart the ICE 119 even went to the side in order to get overtaken by two other ICE trains and still arrived of time at Vaihingen (Enz).
