J.J. Prior: A Voyage on the Working Thames
A documentary short on the history of the J.J. Prior aggregate firm. J.J. Prior Ltd, founded in 1870, extracts and finishes construction aggregate at a quarry site in Fingringhoe, Essex, and ships the aggregate by barge to Brewery Wharf in Deptford, just a short distance from the National Maritime Museum. The film follows the voyage of the James Prior from rural Essex to the heart of urban London, showcasing the varied coastal landscapes and seascapes, and providing a window on the modern working Thames. The film also reflects on the history and evolution of J.J. Prior, from a horse-and-cart Victorian haulage business in East London to the modern shipping company that it is today. The film won best picture in the Professional category at the 2014 Scottish Fisheries Museum short film festival.
