This first episode follows David Kenyon Webster and the rest of Easy Company through the opening days of Operation Market Garden. It includes their airborne landing as part of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, their attack on the Son bridge in the face of German 88mm guns and the liberation of Eindhoven the next day when they linked-up with British ground forces heading for Arnhem. This episode introduces David Webster and the men of Easy Company, explains the airborne infantry organisation and tactics of the 101st Airborne Division, the plan of Operation Market Garden and the initial German reaction. Private Webster’s War by DigitalBattlefieldTours follows Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division through Operation Market Garden using the writings of David Kenyon Webster. His memoir Parachute Infantry laid the foundation for the success of Band of Brothers by giving a detailed and honest account of life as a parachute infantryman in Easy Company. Despite the key importance of his work, Webster only played a small part in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers that propelled Easy Company to worldwide fame. This documentary aims to correct that by telling the real history of Easy Company from Webster’s perspective, backed-up by historical research and on-site footage recorded during the 78th anniversary of Operation Market Garden.
