Most ragas anchor their phrases in the fifth — the most naturally resonant interval in music — and return to it instinctively. Raga Marwa removes it entirely, leaving every phrase to float in unresolved golden longing. With komal Re (flattened second) and tivra Ma (sharp fourth), this raga creates a haunting, suspended beauty unlike anything else in Hindustani music. Traditionally performed in the late afternoon — precisely the golden hour — Raga Marwa carries the feeling of a day that refuses to become evening.
