Obstetric Violence in Australia: National Survey Data, Birth Trauma & Systemic Reform | JEPS Seminar
Dr. Hazel Keedle (Western Sydney University) presents findings from a 2021 national survey of 626 Australian women detailing mistreatment during childbirth. Data revealed themes of dehumanization, violation, and powerlessness — including non-consented vaginal examinations. This research contributed to the NSW Government's 2023 Inquiry into Birth Trauma and recommendations for systemic reform. 🔗 JEPS Hub: https://www.birthplacelab.org/jeps/ | Birth Place Lab, University of British Columbia | Justice and Equity in Perinatal Services Seminar Series
