Mellish to Saldanha - South African Railfan West Coast Pilgrimage

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, I and a few of my fellow South African Railfans met up at Mellish a small disused siding on the outskirts of Cape Town. We had hoped to spot the newly acquired Clyde GM GL26C-2 that Transnet has reclassified as South African Class 35-800. The idea was to pursue them to Saldanha and back. Unfortunately, the Clydes didn't grace us with their presence, but we did manage to spot a healthy number of General Electric 35-000 and 400 series locomotives working various loads. The cement train was the largest consist we had seen up to that point so the decision was made to continue with the chase. Our mission took us along many disused back roads with crossings at Kikoesvlei, Koperfontein, Langeenheid and a quick visit to the iron ore line near Salkor. Two of the clips were lost while organising my storage and were substituted with photographs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_A... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_A... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_A... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sishen%...
