Skardu to Kharian Cantt: 24 Hours of Adventure, Breakdowns & Beauty | Pakistan Road Trip - Deosai 4K

This morning, I set off from my cozy hotel in Skardu, ready to chase my long-time dream: a drive through the majestic Deosai National Park, with a stop at the shimmering Satpara Lake. My trusted Pajero — always reliable — showed its first signs of trouble today. It struggled to start, white smoke curled from the exhaust, and it groaned before roaring to life. As I climbed towards the lake, I felt something was wrong — the power wasn’t there when I needed it most on those steep mountain roads. Faced with growing engine troubles and commitments waiting for me back home in Punjab, I made the difficult decision: instead of exploring more, I would drive straight home. And so began an epic, non-stop 800 km journey: Skardu to Astore, down the mighty Karakoram Highway, over the breathtaking Babusar Top, through Balakot, Mansehra, Naran, Islamabad, and finally to Kharian Cantt. It took nearly 20 relentless hours behind the wheel — but at sunrise, I was home. My mechanic later confirmed my fears: the Pajero’s cylinder head had cracked. We replaced it, and now my faithful companion is back, eager for new adventures. This trip through Pakistan’s northern wonders — from the magical valleys of Hunza to the serene beauty of Skardu — has been a journey of a lifetime. And though it ended differently than I planned, it ended well. The Pajero is ready, and so am I — for the next adventure across our beloved Pakistan.
