Address by Kum. Nivedita Bhide, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari

Sister Nivedita was born in Ireland on 28th October 1867 and was Christened as Margaret Noble. She met Swamiji for the first time during his visit to London in 1895. She was so inspired by Swami Vivekananda that she decided to come over to our country and serve her. She came over to India in 1898. Her contribution for the uplift of our women and in several other spheres was immense. In fact, we are yet to comprehend the magnitude of her work. The story of Nivedita’s dedication and self-sacrifice is sure to instill a spirit of patriotism and a sense of dedication in the hearts of our people, particularly the youth. In order to commemorate Sister Nivedita’s 150th Birth Anniversary, a public meeting was organized on Saturday, the 28th of October, 2017 at our Vivekananda Auditorium. It was presided over by Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Hon'ble President of India. Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Vice President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission also addressed the audience.
