Yagami-dake: Japan's fifth highest peak, at 3180 meters, is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. Starting from Kamikochi, the one-way route is 20 kilometers with an elevation gain of over 1700 meters, including approximately 1300 meters of steep climb in the final five kilometers. The last 200 meters to the summit is exposed rock terrain, requiring the use of both hands and feet. Not suitable for beginners or those with a fear of heights. 😅 The scenery at the top is magnificent on a clear day. However, when I went last month, there were intermittent clouds and strong winds. Fortunately, I had already been there two years ago and seen the grand view. This second solo attempt, focusing on the white cliffs, was still a worthwhile experience. 😆 The round trip from Konashidaira campsite to Yagami is nearly 40 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 1900 meters, taking 8.5 hours. It was a bit tougher than I expected. This was my second time hiking Yagami; the first time was two years ago with my amazing teammates on the Omote-Ginza traverse. So don't tell me you're hiking too fast and can't see the scenery—I've done it twice! Don't worry about me 😂😂 However, I don't recommend soloing Yagami from Konashidaira. The route is long and quite challenging; it would likely take at least 15-16 hours for most hikers. It's better to plan at least two days and one night.
