The National Police, through the Directorate of Police Investigations (DPI) and multidisciplinary units, carried out a simultaneous high-impact operation in the departments of Atlántida, Colón, and Islas de la Bahía, resulting in the capture of eight alleged members of the criminal organization known as El Gato Negro (The Black Cat). During a raid in the village of Matarras, municipality of Esparta, Atlántida, an armed confrontation occurred in which one suspect was killed after attacking police officers. Commissioner Wilmer Mayríos reported that the detainees are directly linked, both materially and intellectually, to the massacre that occurred on May 21 in the Rigores sector of Colón, where 20 people lost their lives. The operation was conducted with legal and scientific support from the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), and resulted in the seizure of high-caliber weapons.
