Ray Fishing the Shannon Estuary! Thornback Ray, Dabs & Flounder

Back out shore fishing this time on the Shannon Estuary, targeting rays and picking up a mix of species along the way, including thornback ray, dabs and flounder. The highlight of the session was a cracking thornback ray — always a brilliant fish to see from the shore. As impressive as they look, rays are actually quite delicate, so please take care when handling and unhooking hem. Avoid lifting them by the tail or wings, and get them back into the water as quickly and safely as possible. A great session with some classic estuary fishing, a few nice bites, and a reminder that looking after the fish is just as important as catching them.
