No one to perform to, no judges, no coaches. In skating shows, the “tech run” is the first time a skater gets to experience their show program with full lighting and sound. As the crew makes their last minute adjustments to color and lighting, the skaters tend to conserve their energy and “walk through” their program, because they’ll have to skate full-out for an audience in a couple of hours. Tech runs are where I‘ve filmed some of the most pensive and relaxed skating moments, as the skater takes it all in, for themselves and no one else.
