A walk along the sea front of Porto, from the City Park to the Carreiros Pavilion. This part of the city is known as Foz do Douro. By 1860 a group of houses existed already in Carreiros, where an alternative port to the one of the Douro, when the tide in the mouth of Douro river did not allow the entrance. In 1869 the first section of the current jetty is built. What used to be the "Road of Carreiros" that until Leça happened to be regularized and transformed in the avenues next to the coast (Av. From 1870 with the arrival of the first public transport system that linked the center of Porto to Foz in less than half an hour has changed forever the experience of this coastal zone, and there is Foz Nova, which we now call Foz do Douro or simply "Foz". The English colony is the pioneer in the holiday homes in Foz, and with the new transports these homes are being used annually as a residence.
