For 80 years, no one in Germany talked about it, but for the last four years, it has been a topic of conversation more frequently than it has been in decades, because the taken-for-granted nature of peace is increasingly crumbling. Most people are unaware that the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) have been deployed to several combat missions in recent years, but Marcel Bohnert served as a company commander in both Kosovo in 1999 and Afghanistan in 2011. In the meantime, he completed a degree in education with a focus on psychology at the Bundeswehr University in 2004. A large part of the discussion is also due to the Bundeswehr's media presence on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, for which Mr. Bohnert is considered an expert and was involved in several campaigns until last year when he began working on training Ukrainian soldiers. The fact that the Bundeswehr has been involved in several combat missions in recent years is largely unknown, but Marcel Bohnert was deployed as a company commander in Kosovo in 1999 and in Afghanistan in 2011.
