Launched in Brazil in 2015, the Golf Variant was one of the last affordable station wagons we had here. Since its retirement in 2019, this body style has been exclusive to premium brands such as Volvo, Audi, and BMW. At the time of its launch, the seventh-generation Golf Variant replaced Volkswagen's other premium station wagon, the Jetta Variant, which is nothing more than the SW version of the previous-generation Golf. Sold in Comfortline and Highline trim levels, the Golf Variant was always imported to Brazil from Mexico, but in two different versions. For the 2015 and 2016 models, it had an independent rear suspension, an automated dual-clutch transmission, and a 1.4 TSI gasoline-only engine. For the model's second version, in its 2017 and 2018 versions, much has changed, with a simple rear suspension, a flex-fuel engine, and a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission. But the car in today's video is special. The manual transmission is a rarity in the Variant line, with around 50 units in Brazil, always in the 2016 Comfortline version.
