Homemade Tools - ep. 2 - Shooting board and accessories for braces, kerfing, kumiko, etc.

A shooting board is used to square up stock, generally the end grain. I use the shooting board all the time to size pieces down to final dimension when I'm building small parts. The shooting board also acts as a convenient jig to hold wood as you use your saw to bring it down to size, and then switch to the hand plane to get it square and to final dimension. Accessories can be made to plane specific angles (other than the standard 90 degrees), and I show you how I use my "donkey ears" attachments to plane 45 degree miters and bigger case mitres. Extremely useful in the shop, this is an essential jig for any shop!
