Markahuasi - Los Refranes (The Old Sayings)

In the eastern province of Santa Cruz, not far from western Brazil, Bolivia's mountains disappear and give way to the crushing presence of the rain forest. A region characterized by heat, humidity, and constant rainfall, it is known for its interesting fusion of cultures and an exuberance associated with the passion of its people. Santa Cruz is home to the "taquirari", a rich musical form cherished and interpreted by talented musicians throughout Bolivia. Although distinctly different from musical forms of the highlands, the "taquirari" mixes wonderfully with central and wester Bolivia. This piece is an instrumental version of Yayo Yofre's well-known composition. (Sikus, kena, charango, guitar, bombo, percussion)
