Although "Ganoderma" or root rot is not a new disease in oil palms, it is widely discussed among palm growers. Previously, it was understood that the disease primarily occurred in mature palm plantations nearing the end of harvest, but now it is spreading in young, productive palm plantations, especially those replanted in the same plots. The unfortunate thing is that there is no clear method for preventing and treating this disease. However, over 50 years of oil palm cultivar improvement and development by "Sirad," a leading global palm cultivar developer, has found that the "Sirad Gano" palm variety is effective in resisting Ganoderma, reducing the spread of the disease while maintaining the basic characteristics of Sirad: high yield, slow growth, short leaf stalks, and good environmental tolerance. For example, a farmer in Khao Phanom District, Krabi Province, experienced a root rot outbreak, resulting in numerous dead palm trees and reduced yields. This forced the plantation to be cut down and replanted. Currently, the 7-year-old palms produce a consistent yield, averaging more than 6 tons per rai per year, and no Ganoderma outbreaks have been reported.
