Antrim Road - Ulster Television start-up (early 1970s)
The Antrim Road was UTV's unofficial theme tune throughout the 1970s. It was broadcast at the start of each day's transmissions, accompanied by a tuning signal. Here's the theme with the tuning signal which accompanied it from 1970 to 1972. The signal was recovered from a damaged home video recording. The 'ITA' stands for the Independent Television Authority, who were responsible for regulating the ITV network and owned all its transmitters. ++++ Havelock House, the historic headquarters of Ulster Television faces demolition. It's the last early regional station in the UK and Ireland and retains its original studios. Visit www.savehavelockhouse.com to find out how you can help protect the building.
