Abdulkadir Ardın, who planted 4,500 fruit trees on barren land at the foot of Mount Ararat and transformed it into a garden, has begun the apricot harvest. Abdulkadir Kadir, who purchased 33 decares of land near the village of Örtülü in the Doğubayazıt district in 2015, converted it into a garden and planted fruit trees. He lives in the house he built in the garden with his family. Ardın, who sold his cranes and invested more in the land, continues to care for his orchard, which includes peach, apricot, apple, plum, cherry, sour cherry, almond, pear, and quince trees. The garden, which also includes a pool, a restaurant, and bungalow-style houses, is currently ripening apricots, and Ardin and his family are excited about the harvest. Having harvested the apricots, Ardin is preparing to harvest other produce, especially apples and peaches, soon. Abdulkadir Ardin explained that the orchard he built on the barren land has grown a wide variety of fruits and that he is pleased with the yield. Ardin stated that the apricots and other fruits are in excellent condition, saying, "Both the yield and taste of apricots are excellent. Malatya and Iğdır are known for apricots, but the apricots grown in the volcanic soil at the foot of Mount Ararat have a different flavor. After apricots, we will harvest peaches, pears, and almonds. The harvest continues until November. Visitors come to our garden from all over the world. They are very pleased when they pick these fruits from the tree branch and eat them. We grow our products organically anyway." Ardin, who explained that he worked as a shopkeeper in an industrial zone in Ağrı for nearly 30 years and sold his 12 cranes and his house to establish the garden, said: "I love Mount Ararat. I always saw this place as barren. This garden has become my world. I can't leave this garden. I've withdrawn from everything. I don't even want to go to the city. This place is so beautiful; I wake up to the sound of birds in the morning. There's a reed bed next to me, home to many bird species. People who want to see me come to the garden. I don't have to go anywhere. Money is a tool for survival. There are jobs that don't cost money. Many people say, 'You could have sold those cranes and built a building.' When I come back from here and look at Mount Ararat among the fruit trees, I'm so happy."
