Cómo hacer composta en casa | Materiales y pasos a seguir.

#urbanfarm #compost A great way to contribute to a circular economy is by composting at home. There are many ways to do it, but the basics are the same. In this video, I'll show you how I do it, and I hope it serves as a guide to encourage you to start your own compost to nourish the soil in your garden. MATERIALS: -Carbon: Dry leaves, straw, pruned branches, sawdust, cardboard, newspaper (not printed in color), etc. -Nitrogen: Grass clippings, green leaves, coffee or tea grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps, etc. STEPS: 1. Select the location and container you will use (you can dig a hole in the ground, use a bucket, box, or plastic container with holes, etc.). 2. Place the first BROWN layer (carbon) with twigs and leaves or straw to provide a base for good air circulation. 3. The second layer is the GREEN layer (nitrogen) of kitchen scraps, garden trimmings, green grass clippings, etc. 4. On top of the green layer, add worm castings, compost, or soil from your garden to add microorganisms (optional). 5. Sprinkle or water with chlorine-free water to moisten the compost. 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 until your composter or container is full. At this point, you can let the level drop for a few days before adding more material to maintain continuous composting. It's very important that your bin is well-ventilated. The compost shouldn't smell bad or unpleasant, even though the ingredients are decomposing; the smell shouldn't be foul. 7. The final layer should be made of carbon, that is, brown material, so that it also serves as a lid and protects the materials. 8. After two or three weeks, you can mix or turn the compost to aerate it. Remember that it should be moist; if necessary, you can moisten it again. 9. The compost is ready when the materials that make it up are no longer distinguishable and it has become like "soil." The smell will be similar to a forest, very pleasant. 10. You can use it immediately or transfer it to another bin and let it mature while you continue making compost in your current bin. It's normal to find some small insects in your compost, which are generally the ones that decompose the material (earthworms, pill bugs, earwigs, and others). MATERIALS NOT RECOMMENDED: Meat, bones, and fish. They produce unpleasant odors. Diseased plants and fruit. Color-printed magazines. Glossy paper. Excrement from pets and people. It carries pathogens. Ash and sawdust from treated wood. It is highly toxic. Any material that is not organic and biodegradable: plastics, glass, etc.
