On October 10, 2022, a leak was discovered in the drainpipe under the sink. It was suspected to be clogged or leaking. After scraping away the white grout and removing the cover, water flowed out when the sink was drained, indicating the iron pipe was rusted and leaking. This is common after ten years. While a replacement would be an option, I decided to use it for a while longer. I temporarily fixed the leak by applying a thin layer of gray polyurethane to the leaking area. Before applying, wipe the area dry and let it dry completely for several hours (alternatively, you could use white grout). The technique for applying the grout is to use a pointed syringe, then dip your finger in soapy water and smooth the application to prevent sticking. Let it dry for a day and then test if it's effective. The leak was gone. The cover was left as is. You can either seal the cover with grout for a tight seal or leave it as is.
