Las tres noticias de Carlos Alsina para empezar el día: "Trump desconcierta al mundo"
This Thursday, July 9th, Carlos Alsina brings us the stories to start the morning: From Donald Trump's back-and-forth between threats and praise during the NATO summit to Feijóo's controversy over sick leave. #donaldtrump #spain #unitedstates https://www.ondacero.es/noticias/mund... Donald Trump's latest verbal escalation is once again shaking the markets and straining relations with NATO allies, while Pedro Sánchez defends Spain's position after the US president's attacks. On the national front, the People's Party (PP) is forced to clarify its statements regarding absenteeism. This is how Carlos Alsina summarizes the day's main news stories. Trump Sows Uncertainty Again Regarding Iran Donald Trump has once again caused a major shock in international markets with his shifting rhetoric on Iran. The Ibex 35 fell by nearly 3%, Wall Street also closed with losses, and the price of oil surged by more than 8%, reaching almost $80 a barrel. All this just one day after the IMF lowered its global growth forecast by one-tenth of a percentage point due to geopolitical uncertainty. The US president asserted in the morning that, for him, the truce with Iran was over because the ayatollahs are, in his words, "going crazy," and even threatened new bombings and the seizure of the strategic island of Kharg. However, hours later he backtracked and stated that he does not believe the war will resume, once again fueling uncertainty among investors and allies. Sánchez Allows Himself to Be Attacked by Trump at the NATO Summit Trump's constant changes of position also marked the close of the NATO summit. After several days of criticizing his European partners, the US president called Spain a "terrible partner" and a "lost cause," reproaching the level of investment in defense even though no journalist had asked him about it. Hours later, the tone changed again, and Trump asserted that the meetings had taken place in an atmosphere of cordiality and unity, describing the other leaders as "very intelligent." The differences, however, remain evident, as evidenced by the fact that the Alliance has still not set a date for next year's summit in Albania. Pedro Sánchez responded by stating that the allies had appreciated Spain's military contribution and confirmed that he had an informal conversation with Trump before the group photo. He explained that they talked about golf and soccer, without making any public reference to the disparaging remarks previously made by the US president. The People's Party (PP) clarifies Feijóo's comments on absenteeism Meanwhile, the People's Party has had to clarify Alberto Núñez Feijóo's statements on absenteeism. The Popular Party leader told business leaders that the problem lies in the fact that some collective bargaining agreements allow employees to be paid the same as those who are absent, even without justifying their absence. The criticism forced the PP's Deputy Secretary of Finance, Juan Bravo, to acknowledge that Feijóo may not have explained himself clearly. The debate comes at a time when business leaders, unions, the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF), and the government itself are all warning about the rise in absenteeism, with 1.7 million sick leaves per day, representing an estimated cost of €33 billion for businesses and public administrations.
