What is the Global Refugee Forum?

At the first-ever Global Refugee Forum in 2019, states, civil society and so many others united to share ideas and pledge action. But four year later, there is still so much more that must be done. #RefugeeForum Held every four years, the Global Refugee Forum is the world’s largest international gathering on refugee issues. This year, the second Forum will be convened in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13 to 15 December 2023. Worldwide, 110 million people were forcibly displaced at mid-2023 as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and events seriously disturbing public order. The 2023 GRF aims to focus a range of actors on finding solutions to their plight, and to support the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) as affirmed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018. The Forum will bring together UN Member States with relevant stakeholders, including: host community members and refugees themselves; international organizations; humanitarian and development actors; international and regional financial institutions; other regional organizations and local authorities; civil society, including faith-based and sports organizations; academics and other experts; representatives from the private sector; and media. In addition to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres and other leaders and ministers will attend. The 2023 Forum is co-hosted by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Government of Switzerland and co-convened by Colombia, France, Japan, Jordan, Niger and Uganda, together with UNHCR.
