Learn about the Miranda Case - Phoenix Police Department
On the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court “Miranda Decision” retired Phoenix Police Captain Carroll Cooley remembers that day and what it means to him. He will also discuss the background of the case as it made its way up to the United States Supreme Court. In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled statements made during interrogation could only be used against a defendant if they are informed of the right to consult with an attorney. The video was produced in 2009 by the Phoenix Police Department Public Affairs Bureau and features re-enactments and historical footage.
