On This Day 1799: Alexander Pushkin Born | Poetry, Passion and Tragedy - Poetry Changes Lives
Welcome to Poetry Changes Lives - On this day in 1799, Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was born. Widely regarded as the father of modern Russian literature, Pushkin transformed Russian poetry and storytelling with works such as Eugene Onegin, Boris Godunov, and Mozart and Salieri. His influence on Russian culture remains immense, inspiring generations of writers, composers, and artists. Pushkin lived passionately and intensely. A nobleman known for his sensitivity, wit, and romantic nature, he fought numerous duels throughout his life. Tragically, the final duel claimed his life at the age of 38. Today's poem, A Magic Moment I Remember, captures Pushkin’s gift for emotional honesty, romance, memory, and longing. The poem reflects the power of love and inspiration to revive the human spirit even after periods of despair and isolation. ✨ Today's reflection: Moments of beauty, love, and inspiration can restore hope when life feels empty or difficult. We should remain open to renewal and wonder. 📖 Poetry Changes Lives brings together poetry, history, and a thought for the day.
