Lagos Floods Worsen Traffic Chaos While Nigeria Unveils New NYSC Reform Package

Heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Lagos, submerging communities and disrupting traffic in Ikeja, Oshodi, Gbagada, and Ajah. Blocked drains and poor waste disposal worsened the situation. Authorities urge residents to manage waste and avoid construction in floodplains to mitigate future flooding. Separately, the Federal Executive Council approved major reforms to the NYSC. The orientation program spans six weeks and focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital skills. New systems improve transparency and efficiency and prioritise safety and career alignment. Other changes include a graduation ceremony, new uniforms, and a civilian-led governance structure with military security. These reforms aim to enhance skills, job creation, and national integration, with legislative amendments pending.
